A fractured truth

Is shale gas an environmentally sound and affordable fuel or should we steer clear? Shale gas has proved to be one of the most controversial energy topics in recent times, but the debate has suffered from a distinct lack of data, particularly outside the USA. This article summarises the arguments for and against hydraulic fracturing for shale gas and discusses its possible life cycle environmental impacts relative to coal, conventional gas, nuclear, wind and solar PV.
