Description

The main aim of this project is to examine Samuel Alexander’s metaphysics of space-time, categories, experience and emergence with the aid of his archive housed at the John Rylands Library, Manchester. A secondary aim is to explore the historical impact of Alexander’s work on other metaphysical realists in the twentieth century, especially John Anderson and Donald C. Williams. A final aim is to evaluate Alexander’s contribution to the development of metaphysics in the twentieth century

Key findings

Project outputs include a series of papers on various aspects of Alexander's metaphysical system and edited collection in celebration of the centenary of his most well-known book Space, Time and Deity.
