School of Materials X-ray Diffraction Laboratory

Description

The School of Materials has nine x-ray diffractometer systems
which cover techniques such as residual stress analysis, texture (preferred
orientation) analysis, phase identification in crystalline and semi crystalline
powders and solid materials. Machines are available for examination of both
small specimens and large components, and for a wide range of materials.

What we do

We endeavour to operate and provide an effective and
efficient XRD laboratory. Our goal is to help you get the best information from
your samples within the limitations of our equipment and time.

How we do
it

To do this we offer:

Data Collection

1:1 training on each diffractometer system which is most
relevant/appropriate for your project (as defined to us at the time of
registration) or

A service queue to allow you to submit a fair and reasonable
number of samples at irregular intervals.

Data
Analysis

Training to help you grasp the basic operation of the
software packages required to interpret your collected data.

Bespoke
Experimental Equipment

We appreciate that to maintain world class capabilities we
need to innovate so we do just that developing new experimental equipment.

Teaching
Laboratory Classes

We generate, teach and provide laboratory class to
undergraduate and MSc students as part of the School of Materials teaching
program.

Manuscript
Preparation

We will help prepare data, script and proof read manuscripts
for peer review, with the appropriate level of acknowledgement.
