MACE Aerodynamics

Internal description

Description

The study of Aerodynamics involves investigation and analysis of a body which moves through air. Our research group focuses on the application of experimental and computational methods to improve understanding of modern aerodynamic design and to help improve efficiency of these vehicles by developing exciting flow control methods.

Our capabilities span surface, air and space transport and cover all flow regimes. Our world-leading experimental capabilities enable us to gain insight into new phenomena, and our ground-breaking computational fluid dynamics tools help us develop novel concepts and explore exciting design opportunities for industry.

We work closely with leaders in the transport sector. In the surface transport sector we partner with flagship UK industry from motorsport and Formula 1, world-renown automotive manufacturers and sector-leading freight transport providers, and are also working with rail transport providers to apply our innovations in this sector. We develop design tools which will enable us to be at the forefront of the road-transport revolution.

In the aerospace industry, we work regularly with sector leaders of airframe and engine manufacturers. We are recognised amongst the select strategic partners of the leading UK aerospace primes. Helping shake-up new concepts, improve flight mission planning and engine durability, leading UK innovations in unmanned flight platforms and developing advanced experimental diagnostic tools.

We are passionate about meeting the environmental engineering challenges of the next century, and inspired to shape how transportation technology will continue to impact our lives for the better.
