Currell’s local effect modelling approach showed a deep analogy between mechanisms of heavy-ion and nanoparticle enhanced therapy, providing a simple framework to predict the physical component of dose enhancement due to nanoparticles  which we have extended to provide the first account for clinically relevant clusters of nanoparticles . The de-facto standard for predicting the efficacy of nanoparticles irradiated in tumours, with many publications using the method or variants of it, it allows computational prediction of efficacy of radiation nanomedicines.
