Author of a series of research papers which were the first to show that up to 50% of patients attending gynaecological clinics have symptoms of IBS. These individuals often have a poor outcome and are frequently submitted to invasive investigation and not infrequently unnecessary surgery. The hysterectomy rate in IBS patients is disproportionately high.
