School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering

Overview

Our School's research advances engineering understanding and practice and addresses major challenges of industrial and societal importance.

Through collaboration with industry, as well as academic research partners within the UK and overseas, we strive to make a difference in the real world. In REF 2014, 100% of the School's impact on industry and policy was ranked as world-leading or internationally excellent.

Our research spans six themes:

• Aerospace engineering
• Innovative manufacturing
• Modelling and simulation
• Nuclear engineering
• Resilient systems
• Structures in extreme environments

These broad themes are underpinned by the diverse expertise of our academic staff and researchers, who enjoy access to a unique array of facilities - from hypersonic wind tunnels to high-powered lasers and supercomputers - allowing our School to continue its proud tradition of innovation.
