School of Earth and Environmental Sciences

Overview

The School is home to several internationally renowned research areas and groups. It was ranked ninth in the UK for its world leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*) research in the 2014 Research Evaluation Framework (REF2014).

It is home to one of the 100 most cited scientists in the field (Thomson Reuters 2014).

One of our researchers was named as one of the 100 leading UK practising scientists in 2014.

Our research covers a wide range of topics in atmospheric physics and chemistry, covering clouds and aerosols, radiative transfer, atmospheric pollution and atmospheric dynamics.

Based in the Williamson Research Centre for Molecular Science, our research also focuses on molecular-level investigations of environmental processes.

We undertake fundamental research into earth, environmental and planetary science, utilising advanced analytical techniques, subsurface data and field studies.

Researchers within the School of Earth, Atmospheric and Environmental Science also collaborate across research areas and with colleagues throughout the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Science.
