Department of Mechanical, Aerospace & Civil Engineering

Overview

Our Department’s academically excellent research advances engineering knowledge and addresses major challenges of industrial and societal importance.

Through collaboration with industry, as well as with centres and institutes in the University and beyond, we strive to make an impact in the real world.

From research into aerospace to the resilience of structural materials, our research spans six fascinating themes:

  • Aerospace engineering
  • Innovative manufacturing
  • Modelling and simulation
  • Nuclear engineering
  • Resilient systems
  • Structures in extreme environments

These broad themes are underpinned by the diverse expertise of our staff and researchers which covers a variety of engineering areas from aerodynamics to water resources.

To carry out their work, our researchers have access to an incredible array of facilities - allowing our Department to continue its proud tradition of innovation.
