Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering
As one of the largest electrical and electronic engineering departments in the UK, we're renowned for our theoretical and applied research.
Our research covers a wide, diverse range of topics with our researchers holding expertise in a number of areas. Our five key research areasoverlap and support each other:
-
Advanced functional materials and devices
-
Electronic engineering for agriculture
-
Resilient energy systems
-
Robotics for extreme environments
-
Sensing technologies for security
We were ranked third in the UK in terms of research impact in the most recent Research Excellence Framework, and we work closely with users of our technology in order to address the challenges faced by manufacturing, utility, health and non-profit organisations.
Using some of the University’s flagship facilities including the High Voltage Laboratory and the Photon Science Institute, we’re able to continue producing important, interdisciplinary work.
