Visiting Programme for Staff from China Pharmaceutical University to University of Manchester

Activity: Participating in or organising event(s)Organising a conference, workshop, exhibition, performance, inquiry, course etc

Description

This visiting programme aims to consolidate the collaboration between China Pharmaceutical University (CPU) and the UK Division of Pharmacy and Optometry, University of Manchester (DPO/UoM), to build pharmacist capacity.
This collaboration was initiated at a meeting in May 2018; a link between the CPU (Professor Xiaoyuan Xu, Ms Weihong Ge) and UoM (Professor Keith Brennan, Dr Li-Chia Chen, Dr Douglas Steinke) was established and facilitated by Dr Jian-Hua Wang and Dr Liang Teng from Xinjiang Medical University First Affiliated Hospital. CPU are interested in developing a joint degree programme with UoM in clinical pharmacy and a short-term training programme to upscale the capacity of current hospital pharmacist
Responding to CPU’s call, the DPO/UoM propose two programmes: (1) a joint 5-year (2+2+1) Bachler of Clinical Pharmacy degree programme and (2) a 3-month 30-credit postgraduate certificate programme for pharmacists. These pharmacists may become clinical tutors for the final year of the 5 year joint degree programme. DPO/UoM proposes to tailor the existing MPharm and MSc Clinical Pharmacy programmes into a feasible, fit-for-purpose and high-quality programme for CPU.
The objectives include to:
• Consolidate the mutual interests and needs in developing the undergraduate pharmacy joint degree programme and the affiliated continuous professional development (CPD) for clinical tutors.
• Agree and commit on the collaborative activities for BSc Clinical Pharmacy (2+2+1) programme and the 30-credit CPD programme.
• Understand the academic and clinical practice environment that University of Manchester can offer.
• Establish the timeline for progressing the collaboration plans.
