Gordon Goodman Memorial Lecture 2017

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk

Kevin Anderson recently gave the annual Gordon Goodman lecture in Stockholm, co-organised by the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), the Swedish Royal Academy of Science and Stockholm University, and attended by Crown Princess Victoria.

The lecture Mitigation on Methadone: the trouble with negative emissions, took as its starting point the temperature commitments enshrined in the Paris Agreement before considering how the prospect of highly speculative “negative emission technologies” (NETs) is already being used to avoid deep and rapid cuts in emissions today. The lecture concluded by outlining a headline strategy and timeframe for yet delivering on a decarbonised and prosperous future.

The lecture was followed by two panel debates with academics and industry representatives discussing the implications of Paris, climate change and negative emissions, both globally and more specifically in relation to Sweden.
