I am a cognitive neuroscientist, interested in emotional cognition - the effect that emotional value has on our cognitive system. I am the director of the Emotional Cognition Lab. Please visit my lab webpage for informatio on my team and how you can get involved.

  • Began my higher education as a student in the Adi Lautman Interdisciplinary Program for Outstanding Students at Tel Aviv University, Israel.
  • Completed an M.A. in cognitive psychology at that university under the supervision of Yonatan Goshen-Gottstein, focusing on the distinction between short- and long-term memory.
  • Completed a Ph.D. with Morris Moscovitch at the University of Toronto, Canada, which initiated my research programme to understand emotional memory.
  • Further training with Ray Dolan and Chris Frith as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging in UCL, where I worked on the representation of emotional value and its influence on learning and decision making.
  • Joined Manchester as a lecturer in 2009.
  • Appointed a Senior Lecturer at the Division of Neuroscience and Experimental Psychology in 2015.

Social responsibility

I enjoy speaking to the public about my research. Follow this link to my Tedx talk and this link to a general discussion of psychological science. From time to time, I am invited to speak about emotion. Here I speak to BBC's Evan Davis about the emotion of being offended (see here for a Spanish version), and here's a BBC radio 4 interview on the emotion of embarrassment.

Other social responsibility actions include: chairing Manchester Cafe Scientifique, which is still going strong, leading my School to win an environmental accredatation called the Green Impact Silver Award, and co-writing the Athena Swan Silver award for the School.
