Prof David Polya
Professor of Environmental Geochemistry
Biography
Professor David Polya was educated at the Friends' School, Hobart and the University of Tasmania. He completed his PhD in 1987 at The University of Manchester on the geochemistry of the Panasqueiratungsten-tin deposit, Portugal. Polya has worked as a field hydrogeologist (at what is now Mineral Resources Tasmania), a computer programmer (Monash University), a high temperature experimentalist (Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee) and a geochemical consultant (GeoScience Limited, Falmouth, UK). His current research interests include field, laboratory and theoretical studies in environmental geochemistry, particularly with respect to arsenic in shallow aquifers in Bengal and Southeast Asia. He is an Associate Director of the Williamson Research Centre and Head of theManchester Analytical Geochemistry Unit and is a responsible person for SEAES's DEFRA/FERA Plant Health Licence
Recent research projects coordinated included the FP6 AquaTRAIN Marie Curie Research Training Network, the FP6 EU ASIA-LINK CALIBRE Project and the UKIERI PRAMA Project. Prof Polya has published over 60 papers , is a member of the editorial boards for Applied Geochemistry, Mineralogy Magazine, WQEH and Water, and has been involved in the organisation of numerous international conferences including Arsenic 2012, ISEG 2012 Aveiro, ICOBTE 2011 Florence, AquaTRAIN W8 Orleans,Arsenic 2010,
