Dr Plant joined the Arthritis Research UK Epidemiology Unit in 2001 as a Stiefel funded PhD student. His PhD project was laboratory based, focussed on identifying genetic predictors of psoriasis development. In 2005, Dr Plant moved to the Alexander Fleming Institute, Southern Attica (GR), on a Marie Curie Research Training Network Programme. Here he developed methods for analysing array based gene expression datasets generated in various mouse models of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In 2006, he moved back to the ARUK Centre for Musculoskeletal Research joining AUTOCURE, a large international collaboration led from the Karolinska Institute (SE). Since 2008, his research has focussed on prediction of treatment response to synthetic DMARDs and biologic drugs in RA. He works closely with Professor Anne Barton and the Biologics in RA Genetics and Genomics Study Syndicate (BRAGGSS) to address precision medicine questions by analysing large genetic and genomics datasets.
