Cosimo is a final year PhD student for the EPSRC & MRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Regenerative Medicine, based in the Department of Materials.

His research is focused on the fabrication, characterisation and in vitro applications of a novel self-assembling peptide/graphene oxide hydrogel nanocomposite for the tissue engineering of nucleus pulposus (NP) tissue. He is currently investigating the interactions occurring between encapsulated NP cells and the peptide hybrid matrix to get a proof-of-concept for the design of 3D injectable hydrogels for intervertebral disc repair.

He is supervised by Prof Alberto Saiani, Prof Judith Hoyland and Dr Aravind Vijayaraghavan
