Overview

I am currently a Research Associate based at the Manchester Centre for Health Psychology, working on a programme of research aiming to address obesity prevention, and improving health and wellbeing. The programme focuses on two core aspects: improving patient/general public understanding of obesity prevention through appropriate lifestyle behaviour change, and understanding the healthcare professional role in obesity prevention.

Biography

I completed my BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology at Lancaster University before undertaking the MSc in Clinical and Health Psychology at the University of Manchester. I then worked as a Research Assistant which included assisting with the qualitative evaluation of a training programme for healthcare professionals, an update of a systematic review, and leading a pilot study testing the effectiveness of mindfulness for people with long-term health conditions.

My PhD, awarded in June 2015, used a mixed methods approach to investigate health risk communication and the role of lifestyle behaviour change in reducing risk, particularly for people with psoriasis.

I then worked as a Research Associate at the Manchester Pharmacy School, investigating technological solutions to supporting healthcare professional behaviour change. This work involved two parts: firstly synthesising the current evidence on successful behaviour change interventions that use technological supports for patient-facing healthcare professionals. Second, examining the acceptability and feasibility of a technological intervention, based on implementation intentions, aiming to reduce prescribing errors in two large NHS Foundation Trusts in Greater Manchester.
