I joined the Manchester Department in 2014; before that I lectured in English and Cultural Studies at the University of Salford. Between 2010 and 2014 I was Principal Investigator on the AHRC funded project ‘Cultural, Journals and Working-class Movements, 1820-1979’, run in collaboration with the Working Class Movement Library. In 2013 I was the Jackson Brothers Research Fellow at Yale University. In 2016-17 I was an AHRC Leadership Fellow for a project entitled Wars of Position: Marxism and Civil Society, run in collaboration with Manchester's People's History Museum. My articles have appeared in journals including ELH, History Workshop, Textual Practice and Literature & History. I’m on the editorial boards of Key Words: A Journal of Cultural Materialism and Twentieth-century Communism.
