Ms Arianna Tozzi

Overview
I am currently undertaking a SEED-funded PhD which investigates local understandings and practices of building resilience to climate change. The research will focus on drought affected areas in the state of Maharashtra, India and use a gender and intersectional approach rooted in feminist and critical political ecology literature, as well as feminist readings of science and technology studies.
With my research, I want to create more politically aware and socially just conceptualizations of climate resilience, critiquing mainstream liberal approaches. To do so, I will work to empower alternative resilience practices that are sensitive to questions of gender and the realities of people living in rural communities.
Methodologically, I am interested in exploring novel research approaches, mixing traditional quantitative and qualitative research methods with other more creative practices including the use of ethnographic mapping and reflexive positional cartography.
Prior to joining the University of Manchester, I worked in India for three years as a Researcher, collaborating with the University of Minnesota, Institute on the Environment. My work focused on analysing the long-term sustainability of decentralized solar energy systems. Beween 2015 and 2017, I worked as a Project Officer at The Climate Group in London, working on pojects around energy efficiency.
