Dr Savoia's research has looked at the determinants of governance and institutional performance and how they impinge on development outcomes and policies. His teaching experience includes economics of governance, economics of inequality, development finance, macroeconomics, microeconomics and econometrics. Alongisde his teaching and research activities, he also enjoys contributing to the policy debate. He was a researcher at the Effective States and Inclusive Development centre at the University of Manchester and has previously worked at the University of Exeter, the University of Reading and the University of Bath (where he received his Ph.D.).

Dr Savoia is a Senior Non-Resident Fellow at the United Nations University - World Institute for Development Economics Research.
