Dr Alexander Oldroyd

Overview
I am currently a Clinical Research Fellow within the Centre for Musculoskeletal Research. In September 2017 I began a PhD with the aim of developing novel techniques for remote disease severity measurement of the idiopathic inflammatory myopathies. I am funded through Fellowships from Versus Arthritis and the Manchester NIHR Biomedical Research Centre.
Biography
I completed my medical degree at the University of Liverpool alongside an intercalated Masters in medical statistics (Lancaster University). I have since completed integrated clinical and research training programmes through the Academic Foundation Programme (West Midlands Deanery) and NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship (University of Manchester).
Following the first year of Rheumatology Specialist Training I was awarded a PhD Fellowship through the newly created Manchester NIHR Biomedical Research Centre. I was subsequently awarded an additional Clinical Research Fellowship from Versus Arthritis.
My PhD focuses on the development of novel remote disease severity measurement techniques in the Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathies. Other research interests include characterising the clinical manifestations of the myositis specific autoantibodies, time series analysis, statistics and statistical computation.
I continue my clinical work through the rheumatology department of Salford Royal Hospital, which is a tertiary referral unit for a number of conditions, including the Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathies.
