I am a PhD candidate in the Department of History here at The University of Manchester.
Broadly speaking, my fully-funded PhD asks this research question: where did Brexit come from? My work focuses on the historical reception of Euroscepticism within C/conservative thought. In this, I aim to explore how the concept of hostility towards the various forms of European organisation grew, adopting a particular case study of the North-West of England.
My supervisors are: Dr Emily Jones, and Professor Stuart Jones.
I began my academic career with a Masters degree in History at Manchester in 2019. My thesis focused on the creation and longevity of 'Lancashire Toryism'. This followed a number of years working for the University of Cambridge, and later Warwick, and following my Undergraduate degree in History with Politics (2010) with a thesis that focused on 'entryism' within regional politics.
Outside of university life, I am a Trustee for a charity called Fumble. I follow Manchester City Football Club; however, my Mastermind specialist subject would be typography.
