Ning Zhang is currently a Senior Lecturer in Distributed Systems Security in the School of Computer Science at the University of Manchester.
She received a BSc degree from Dalian Maritime University, China, and a PhD degree from the University of Kent at Canterbury, UK, all in Electronics Engineering. Before joining the University of Manchester, she worked as a Research Associate in the School of Computer Science, the University of York, and then as a Lecturer in the School of Computing and Math, the Manchester Metropolitan University. She joined the School as a Lecturer in 2000, and became a Senior Lecturer in 2006.
She was the recipient of the Best Student Paper Award from the IEEE ICC/SUPERCOM'90, and a co-recipient of a Best Paper Award from IEEE ISCC2004. She was a general co-chair of the Third International Symposium on Information Assurance and Security (IAS07), an Editor for the IAS07 proceedings, a Co-chair of the LoA-RG (Authentication Levels of Assurance Research Group) in OGF (Open Grid Forum). She also served as a Guest Editor for the Journal of Information Assurance and Security, Issue 4 (2009), 1554-1010, Dynamic Publishers, Inc. She currently serves as an Editor for the Journal of Information Assurance and Security (JIAS), and an Associate Editor of the Communication System and Security Track of the JIPS (Journal of Information Processing Systems), published by Korea Information Processing Society, and as an external examiner for some of the MSc Programmes in Computer Science both at the University of Hull and at University College Dublin. She has six times been invited by the Irish Research Council as an International Peer Assessor/Reviewer for research funding assessments and project progress reviewing. She has served as a technical Programme Committee member for a large number of International security conferences.
