Overview

My primary research area is in leukaemia (focussing specifically on chronic lymphocytic leukaemia). My Research Group includes post-doctoral and doctoral researchers as well as undergraduate students, and focusses on techniques to quantify changes functional behaviour related to drug effect focussing on novel signal-inhibitor drugs, incorporating proteomic and nanoparticle approaches with collaborators within Manchester. The Research Group is funded through charitable funds, industrial funds and consultancy, together with work supported by EPSRC and Myeloma UK

As a clinician working principally in diagnostic haematology I also integrate research aimed at enhancing diagnosis through the application of digital technology and new technical approaches. This collaborative work includes development of web-based diagnosis and analysis, and the development of new decision support and assessment tools (inc. App development), the investigation of new approaches to diagnosis in coagulation, and new work to assess frailty within the context of myeloma treatment. Involves national and international groups across UK and Europe with formal positions with EHA and UK NEQAS

Presently working with colleagues to develop and Manchester HMD, this work supports tissue banking and resources used in collaborative projects in MPD, nanopartical application with groups in chemistry and pharmacology. I teach groups with medicine, FLS and MMU as well as international outreach teaching.
